Vince Zampella, cocreator of Call of Duty game, dies in car crash in the US
Vince Zampella, the co-creator of the globally successful Call of Duty video game franchise, has died in a car crash in California at the age of 55.
His death was confirmed by Electronic Arts, which owns Respawn Entertainment, the studio he co-founded.
Details of the Fatal Car Crash
Zampella was travelling in a Ferrari with another person when the vehicle crashed on a Los Angeles highway on Sunday and caught fire.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the car veered off the roadway for unknown reasons, struck a concrete barrier, and became fully engulfed in flames. Officials said the passenger was ejected from the vehicle, while the driver remained trapped inside. Both occupants died at the scene.
Authorities have not confirmed whether Zampella was driving the vehicle or identified the other individual involved.

Journalist and Game Awards host Geoff Keighley, who wrote a book on the making of Titanfall, described Zampella as a “dear friend” and a “visionary executive” who valued honesty and transparency.
“While he created some of the most influential games of our time, I always felt he still had his greatest one ahead of him. It’s heartbreaking that we’ll never get to play it.”
Keza MacDonald, video games editor at The Guardian, told BBC Newshour that Zampella deeply cared about player experience and how people felt when playing his games.
YouTuber MrRoflWaffles credited Zampella with inspiring an entire generation of players and creators.
